A modern shop today is a very dynamic place to see, however, it can also be a very scary place.
Management must create a TEAM in order to execute to the highest Professional level. That being said, however, we witness many shops where employees do not understand the roles and functions of the other “departments”. They only do their own work and there is no engagement between them to really understand what it takes to truly execute completely on behalf of the client and therefore they come to work each day to work in their own “CYLO”.
A TEAM has NOT been formed and I’m betting your business math clearly shows that. Just having documented ideas or Policy Manual (which are required today) does not mean it will happen… you need active and on-going discussion to bring about a mutual respect for each person’s role within the business. If you have one person “off track”, the TEAM cannot come together.
You retain good people when they witness and experience “progress” within the business. Progress motivates them, so have real conversations within the business. Provide accountability leadership in an open atmosphere and watch your CYLO’s disappear.
