January is a good month to review internal processes to make sure they are functioning properly and being executed with accountability.

Consider the following internal procedures to review:

- Review vehicle inspection procedures to ensure consistency in execution by the team and that the data is being stored properly for easy retrieval. Look into electronic inspections and vehicle management based on how the vehicle is being used. You are a high tech shop. Why are you still using paper inspections?

- Are your KPI’s (Key Performance Indicators) being completed daily for analysis and full discussion with the staff?


- Are your staffing levels right? Service Advisor, Technician, Back Parts person and Reservationist are key shop levels of personnel that must be in place to maximize total shop productivity and provide a fabulous client experience.


- Are you producing timely and accurate monthly financial data to review and analyse what the trends are in your business? In economics, the trend is your friend. In shop management the trend is your life… don’t fool with it, understand it.

Each topic can be a task in the business as each play a vital role to ensure producing and sustaining net income. Use January to your advantage and dive into the details that make your business work.
